Minute Meditation

Inspiration

We are both in the process of applying for internships/jobs. It's a stressful situation, which leads to a lot of screen time. There's been moments where a little breathwork would have gone a long way. That's why we decided to create an extension focusing on just that. Life is fast-paced and we don't always get more than a minute of time between tasks. This extension is built with that purpose in mind, So that you can gain a little peace throughout your day.

What it does

Upon load the images fade into view. The music is optional, a track by Siddhartha Corsus, you can turn it on and off via the sound button. The play button only has one function, which is to start the meditation. Upon starting an abstract timer changes in increments of around 8 seconds per. The large flower in the middle begins spinning with the timer. The smaller flowers spin when the meditation is over, as well as a chime to notify the user. Instructions are short and to the point: Be still, breathe in and out. The end flashes that breathe conquers the mind. It's a reminder to the user that an anxious mind can be combatted through breathwork.

How we built it

Saurav took the head, creating the files for the extension. Jo added the illustrations and the text. The song was found via the Free Music Archive with creative commons rights. Same thing with the end chime. We took turns implementing features. It was all trial and error.

Challenges we ran into

This was Jo's first extension, sitting at a little over six months experience with Web Development. That in itself was a challenge. Error handling is always an issue. Figuring out how to organize the functions and get the right results. We are still scheming of things that we can implement later when we turn it into a full blown application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The entire thing. It's very calming.

What we learned

How to functionally complete an extension. We'll be uploading it to the Chrome Store soon enough =)

What's next for Minute Meditation

We're looking to turn Minute Meditation into a full blown application where you can choose your music - and perhaps even extend the timer. Although that would break the "minute" format.
