Minus the Tutor Chatbot

Inspiration

Our projected needed to be AI related but we were unsure what the theme of it should be. We read the, "A Map of Generative AI for Education", article that was provided by Schmidt Futures and saw that AI could be used as a tutor for grade K-12.

What it does

It is designed to tutor you based on subject and grade level. You can give it any question and it will use Googles Cloud Vertex AI to generate a response. Based on what subject and grade level you select it will tune its answer to make it easier to understand for certain grade levels.

How we built it

It is built with python, Google Cloud Vertex AI API and tkinter for UI design. We used visual studio code and GitHub to collaborate and write the code.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing the Google Cloud API was the hardest challenge as none of our group had experience with that.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to build a finished product with no errors and is easily deliverable.

What we learned

We learned how to implement the Google Cloud Vertex AI API to our desktop app and learned UI design through tkinter.

What's next for Minus the Tutor Chatbot

We will make the Chatbot public for anyone to use so students around the world will have access to a 24/7 online tutor.
