Inspiration
The inspiration behind this is as a rising senior in high school, I know how difficult it must be to apply for college especially being a FGLI student. The application process is never easy and is even more difficult for the FGLI community, so I pitched an app idea that could possibly be implemented to help FGLI students get scholarships, learn about college, and get help from counselers.
What it does
It is an app that has many features. The FGLI students can schedule tutoring sessions with college professionals, participate in live stream Q&A's, look for scholarships, and text in a group chat with other FGLI students.
How we built it
Being in the pitch competition, the app has not been built yet.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge ran into was trying to connect with FGLI students putting myself into their shoes and trying to imagine such problems they run into.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of the idea I came up with since it is feasible and unique compared to other ideas.
What we learned
I learned about the trials and tribulations FGLI students go through on the daily, worrying about money, college, and their future. As a rising senior in high school, I am blessed to have more than half the things these students do not have and I can now sympathize with them deeper.
What's next for Minority to Majority 2024 Hackathon FGLI
The next thing for M2M is to hopefully implement and create the app. It can definitely be helpful to an abundance of students.
