clarity.

Inspiration

We share our personal information in so many places these days - it’s hard to keep track of what information we share and where, what data each of our apps has access to, how secure our passwords are, etc. With all these cybersecurity issues we face on the regular, we wanted to make an all-in-one app that tells you what your digital footprint is - find out what information you have been sharing and how you can be safer on the internet and when using any tech.

What it does

"clarity." was developed to be the one-stop tech solution for everyone’s cybersecurity and data privacy needs. Accessible to everyone through our simple yet fully functional and highly comprehensive application, "clarity." clearly outlines the data privacy issues that its users face. Our app provides users with a comprehensive list of malicious web pages, helps user check the safety of their password(s), manage permissions through a simple and flexible control panel, modify general application permissions, and it displays any outstanding security breaches. Lastly, with "clarity." we run our own VPN to connect users to the closest secure server.

How we built it

Interested and encouraged to produce a responsive application by the flutter framework, our group utilized an array of tools including the haveibeenpwned API to determine user password safety and potential security compromises, Google’s Web Risk API to generate a comprehensive list of malicious web pages, as well as running our own VPN to provide our users a truly unique all-in-one experience all wrapped into one dynamic and responsive app. We also used Canva and Rive.app to create the artwork and dynamic animations which we integrated into our app to create a more refreshing UI for an accessible and enjoyable experience.

Challenges we ran into

We had to learn and work with numerous things that were out of our comfort zone. These included Flutter, API accessing, Google Cloud integration and AWS integration. Additionally, the theme of this Hackathon focuses on a topic we weren't very familiar with, so we had to spend some time researching and learning so that we could deliver the best on our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning new tech! We each played a role and learned how to use Rive.app, API, AWS among other things to create a product we are proud of!

What we learned

We learned how to create a website by combining various languages, APIs, hosts, and frameworks. It was a challenging yet very fulfilling process as we saw our ideas come to life in “clarity.”!

What's next for Minnehack-2022-ymx

We would like to integrate additional security features into our app, such as 2-factor-verification, local and corporate LDAP, and the ability to monitor incoming and outgoing frequencies on devices.
