Inspiration

I had been interested in learning mobile focused interaction and thought a merge game was a great mechanic to work toward. After creating the working mechanic and game, it occured to me that the monster characters could be easily swapped out with a creators own custom designs. If I made it easy to customize then non technical creators could easily show off their art!

What it does

It allows players to customize characters, title, audio, and vfx within this fully functioning Merge Game.

How we built it

It uses focused interaction with a fixed camera to select loaded items with a raycast from the screen. The touch interaction lets the player drag items and further logic determines if items can be dropped, reset, or merged with other similar items.

Challenges we ran into

Decoupling the focused and camera actions from their original source was difficult. Raycast selection to a reliable drag and drop system showed complications. Figuring out how to properly send texture assets across network events was a challenge. Organizing an easy way to reference managers from a single point reference was challening. The same proved difficult for organizing audio into one source.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The challenges stated and a continued growth of ecosystem knowledge. The time it took to organizen and architecture the game from the start proved to be useful as a remixable world.

What we learned

A deeper understanding of focused interaction, camera management, data loading and saving, asset pool creation, accurate loading UI, animated bindings, to name a few.

What's next for Minimon Move In REMIX

Hopefully to see a bunch of remixes with creators own custom art!
