UI/UX Design
link The inspiration behind our web design "EcoHacks" stems from our passion for a sustainable enviroment. With alarming rising temperatures, and increasing risk of natural disasters we believe it is our role as hackers to aim to tackle current sustainability issues. Our web portal for "EcoHack" is designed to allow Hackers to have easy access to the 3 day Hackaton schedule, about the organization "Ecohack" and more. The web portal for "EcoHack" was built using the software figma, while applying design fundamentals learnt in a workshop with mentors. Some challenges we came across were mechanics such as hovering and scrolling, as well as design choice dilemas. Despite these challenges we are proud of all the things we learned such as fundamental UI elements, and figma basics.
Crypto
link After attending the crypto workshop, we were thinking about how e-transfers would work using crypto wallets. So, we made a simulation of an interaction between two crypto wallets. It was built using Remix IDE, solidity, and information taught at the Crypto workshop. When we were making the project, we tried to do everything we could with the limitations of Remix IDE, such as trying to incorporate a real crypto wallet. During the process, we were succesfully able to made a crypto wallet and figure out how you would deploy a contract with it. However, we faced challenges with acquiring test tokens, navigating faucets, and grasping the concept of mining. I believe that given more time to do research we could have done a simulation using a real crypto wallet with test tokens.
3D Modelling
link The inspiration behind the amazing floating mug is the solving of the common issue of needing a drink in the pool during a hot summer day. As its name implies, this cup is a mug that has a floatie attached underneath it allowing for it to float on water. The 3D design was made on onshape. Challenges faced when making this product consist of finding the right size of the floatie so the buoyancy of the floatie could withstand the force of the mug and the drink. We are proud of the innovation of this design, as we believe that is it life changing for many individuals. In making this product, we've learned the importance of trusting yourself no matter how outrageous you sound.
What's next for Minihacks Portfolio
This was our entire team's first hackathon, so most of the things were pretty new to all of us. Although we did the best we could, we had to sacrifice our ambitions due to our lack of skills and the short timeframe. One of the things we really wanted was to make a common theme of using technology to protect the environment, which is the theme of our Figma hackathon wireframe. Another thing we wanted to do is further work on our 'Ecohack' website and make a functioning website. I believe that the knowledge gained at the workshops and through making the projects have given us the skills to make our ambitions reality.
