Introduction

Welcome to Minigame Party – an engaging and fast-paced party royale game featuring 7 minigames that can be enjoyed by up to 8 players. Players compete in short, easy-to-understand 60-second rounds, aiming to achieve the highest score and become the Minigame Party Champion. This game is specifically designed to appeal to younger audiences who enjoy short-form social media content.

Our goal was to create a game that feels rewarding for every player while maintaining a competitive edge. Test your skills and strategies and feel like a winner across a wide variety of games, regardless of your skill level.

Key Features

  • Quick, fun multiplayer action.
  • Multiple minigames within a single world, providing variety.
  • Focused on competitive, social, and engaging gameplay.

Inspiration

The inspiration for Minigame Party comes from classic party games like Mario Party, which bring friends together for fast-paced fun and competition. We aimed to create a world where players could jump in, compete, and enjoy a variety of challenges in a single session.

Additionally, this game is a recreation of our previous title Minigame Mania, which we developed for the Crayta Mega Game Jam - Unfinished Business.

What It Does

Minigame Party offers players a series of short, fun minigames they can play with friends. Each minigame is designed to be simple but challenging, ensuring that players of all skill levels can enjoy the experience. Players compete to earn points and strive for victory in a fun, social environment.

Meet the Team

  • LittleCreator: A creative powerhouse who built the entire world and all of its assets.
  • Varun (varunastra.hw): A reliable teammate who joined for this GameJam, specializing in UI and scripting logic for some of the minigames.
  • Vilva (DreamArchitects): Developed the game’s foundation and assisted Varun with scripting.

How We Built It

This was our first venture into Horizon Worlds, where our team had to learn TypeScript and the Horizon API from scratch after the jam began.

We utilized the Meta Horizon Worlds' desktop editor to design a colorful, interactive environment. Special thanks to Matt "Tellous", who provided valuable support with complex scripting questions.

We opted for a low-poly design style to ensure optimal performance on any device, particularly mobile. All 3D assets were created using the Meta Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor. For audio, we used Suno AI Pro for music generation and included some royalty-free sound effects found online.

Challenges We Faced

  • Optimizing the World: Ensuring stable performance for multiple players joining and leaving the session at any time.
  • Complex Scripting: Quaternion Rotations and Raycasts posed challenges, leading us to temporarily abandon some minigame ideas, such as SkewerShuffle.

Accomplishments We Are Proud Of

  • Quality over Quantity: Prioritizing a smaller selection of polished minigames with clean code ensures easier future updates.
  • Varied Minigames: Designing diverse and entertaining challenges.
  • Stable, Lag-Free World: Achieving consistent performance, even with multiple players.

What We Learned

We gained experience in optimizing a world for multiplayer gameplay, balancing multiple game modes, and scripting/designing for Meta Horizon Worlds.

Jam Update Improvements

  • 🧭 New Hub Design – The central hub has been redesigned for smoother navigation and a more polished look.
  • 🎮 Minigame Refresh – Each minigame has been updated with improved visuals, gameplay balance, and new mechanics to keep the experience fresh.
  • 📊 Fixed Leaderboards – Leaderboards now update correctly and reflect accurate scores across all minigames.
  • 🎨 Visual Polish – Minor decorations and UI tweaks for a more vibrant and immersive experience.
  • 🐞 Bug Fixes – General stability and performance improvements across all minigames.

What's Next for Minigame Party

We have numerous new minigames planned, and we believe that with our performant low poly design and efficient code, the game will be able to handle all of them. Our upcoming plans include:

Game Systems:

  • Player progression 2.0 (Daily Quests, Player Level + XP Bar, Coin Currency, Cosmetic Shop).
  • Spectator Camera.
  • Minigame Intro Camera.
  • Photo Shoot area.

More Minigames:

  • Skewer Shuffle: A recreation of our Crayta minigame.
  • Mine Max: Find a path through a randomized field of mines.
  • Quick Draw: A new shooting minigame.
  • Team-Based Minigames.

We are excited to see how the Horizon Worlds community receives the game and are open to player feedback and suggestions for new minigames or features they would like to see.
