Minerva

Inspiration

One of our team member worked at a law firm over the summer and realized the technological complex nature of the law sector. He was assigned a task for the month that was able to be automated in python in 2 days. The currently technology in the law is antiquated and has a high learning curve.

What it does

Minerva solves this complexity of law and law education, opening up access to a wide range of Case Law so that law students and even firms themselves can quickly find closely related Case law that set precedent for a case. Related to the field of education, this solution improves the education system in the law side and makes law education more accessible to streamlining reading and citation operations.

How we built it

We used Flutter for the fronted and made API calls to fill in for the back end.

Challenges we ran into

Working with flutter for the first time, we ran into many bugs when rendering the pdfs but critically analyzed the bugs to solve them in a timely manner.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we could set up a site on our first hackathon and that we were able to make a minimal viable product.

What we learned

We learn how to use flutter for web development and how to manage API calls and what to do when the API doesn't behave as we think it would.

What's next for Minerva

Making Minerva easier to use for lawyers and having more features such as storing specific Case Law.
