Inspiration

Minecraft was a sandbox game that imitates the real world. The in-game characters had to sleep and eat just like real life humans. I realized I could bring apps that exist in the real world into minecraft, such as health companions that track your calories and nutrient intake.

What it does

It oversees what you eat in minecraft and updates your health and nutrient balance rating each time you eat. If you eat high sugar foods, your sugar levels would get higher. Each food item was given a rating for each category of nutrients(Fat, sugar, sodium, carb and protein). For example: apple have a rating of [0,3,0,1,0]. Whenever the player eats a food item, their overall rating of [100,100,100,100,100] each drops by 2, leaving [98,98,98,98,98] when you add the apple's rating on to the player rating, you will get the final rating of [98,101,98,99,98]. This rating changes each time the player consumes a food item and and excess or absence of certain nutrients will each have their own corresponding punishments(debuffs).

How we built it

I stayed up all night to finish it after I got the idea one day before the deadline.

Challenges we ran into

Persistent bugs that seemingly came out of nowhere, and me being rusty going back into coding after a long break

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I finished the project in record time, it only took me a day while usually taking me around 3 to 4 days. This shows that even I, a master procratinater, can get stuff done when demanded of it

What we learned

Staying up during the night can really mess with your brain and impair thinking and judgement. I got very infuriated towards and bugs and couldn't form a clean line of logic for the program. Another lesson is to never give up, I thought I couldn't finish the project before the deadline and tried to convince myself to quit multiple times but the other half of me struggled and brought me this "glory" (maybe?)

What's next for Minecraft Nutritional Program

I might plan to improve it's features, GUI and patch the bugs. But I have other big projects coming up so Minecraft Nutritional Program will have to unfortunately wait.
