Inspiration

In today’s time where we fight against a global pandemic mental health of a person plays an important role. Staying in between those 4 walls and those same family members with no exposure to the outside world (during the past lockdowns) makes it difficult for everyone (smallest kid to the oldest grandfather). Another major issue is accidents which can make one unconscious. And lead to significant damage to life. By the time a patient is taken to a hospital and his Glasgow Coma Score is out, it might be too late to start the treatment, which may lead to the loss of life.

What it does

So to have a solution for the above-listed problems we decided to develop an app that will have all the parameters to bring out the Glasgow coma scale score ( GCS Score) by a non-medical person and inform the hospital in advance so that the authorities can make the appropriate arrangements and make it easy to start the treatment as soon as the patient arrives at the hospital. Glasgow coma scale is a hypothetical scale that is used to measure the level of unconsciousness of a patient before starting any medical surgery or after the patient has met with an accident. The three parameters used to determine the Glasgow Coma Score of a patient are Eye Response, Verbal Response, and Motor Response. The app will also contain a section for checking the mental health of a person. This section contains a list of questions that would give an accuracy of 65-70% about a person’s mental health. Giving scores of various possible outcomes like anxiety, depression, and more. These questions will be approved by the respective psychologist with referral to ICD (International Classification of Diseases) 11th Edition and will be under their surveillance, which means if they find out that a person is going through a lot of problems they will contact the patient themselves and try to help them out. This part of the app will be developed using machine learning. A couple of research and trials need to be run until we finalize the technique to use.

Consider a situation where a person meets with an accident and people around have no access to his/her phone. No worries, the app does contain a feature where a second person can measure the GCS of the primary person and later on transfer all the details to the primary person using the share option. No personal details will be shared, just basic information such as the eme number, the hospital he/she was sent to, and the GCScore.

GCS could be a lifesaver for a few others too. This could be used to determine how drunk or high a person is which could warn him to sober out before he/she gets home.

How we built it

We have planned to use Flutter and Firebase to build it.

Challenges we ran into

Finding the right questions to ask while checking the mental health of a person. And to give them an accurate result.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of our research has proved that it is just a set of questions that are asked to determine one's mental health. And based on the previous answer another set of questions is to be answered. We plan on using machine learning to develop a model which would be best suited for this.

What we learned

We got to learn a lot about how the world (especially India) is suffering from mental diseases which they neglect due to peer or societal pressure. And the way a few have taken up the challenge and are fighting them to stay long. Alongside discovered the fact that GCS can be used to determine how drunk or high a person is.

What's next for MindWork

We have planned to complete the app and get started by reaching out to a psychiatrist who would help us get the initial database and explain to us what mental health is and how is it being affected nowadays, and the preventive measures which would help us develop a better product.
