Inspiration
We both either have anxiety or enjoy mindfulness, so we wanted to find a way to use a visual aspect to improve the process.
What it does
The welcome page provides an overview of EMDR and how MindWave uses it. The next page is a questionnaire, tracking the user's mental stare before MindWave's exercise. The final page is the actual exercise, with an EMDR simulator and questions to reflect on. This is meant to simulate EMDR therapy, with a focus on mindfulness instead.
How we built it
Used Java, Swing, and a bit of HTML to create 3 main pages: the welcome page, the questionnaire, and the actual reflection page.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges with keeping track of the questionnaire score and switching through the pages seamlessly. We would try to switch to the next page and remove the previous page's elements but some wouldn't disappear cause each page to look strange.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of being able to effectively use swing and buttons to transition through the app. We are also proud of how we used actionListeners and mouseListeners to make proper use of the buttons.
What we learned
We learned about the Swing library and how to use Listeners to make buttons effective.
What's next for MindWave
We'd like to implement an actual EMDR simulator and have each question appear in 30-sec intervals. We'd also like to add another questionnaire at the end to track the user's progress and see how effective the exercise was.
