Inspiration
We wanted to develop a program to improve and track your skills. An inspiration for some of the tasks was the Human Benchmark Test, though the problem with tools like this is that they are focused on measuring current ability, rather than giving you the techniques to get better. We also brought together many unique categories of self-improvement that most tools don’t have.
What it does
Our program has several fun tasks to measure your skills and improve them, as well as increase your knowledge and your overall self. We have many categories in our program that help you improve your skills and well-being by tracking your progress and best performance.
How we built it
We used the python GUI framework ‘customtkinter’ to have a straightforward and modern looking program. We each were able to program simultaneously on different self-improvement categories. Us learning how to use GitHub and git helped a lot with collaboration.
Challenges we ran into
One of us had very minimal knowledge of any programming, but because of that they probably learned the most out of any of us. We also ran into the difficulty that most of the techniques we used to program were brand new, so online documentation was sparse.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of learning new technologies and combining all our individual efforts into a cohesive program. It is amazing that we can come together to use our skills to create something anyone can use to become their better self.
What we learned
All but one of us had never been to a hackathon before, so programming in teams was a helpful learning experience for our future careers. It was also helpful to work on a project larger than the ones we do in class. In-class projects are usually limited in scope and do not teach you many of the organizational techniques that programmers need to learn.
What's next for MindSprint
We are enthusiastic about our idea and would like to add additional functionality. Some of the ideas we wanted to implement, but didn’t have time for this hackathon were a helper for nutrition, a tool for improving reading comprehension, and a grammar helper.
