Hi, I'm Juan Camilo, and I created MindSpace to tackle the biggest challenge facing Monta Vista students: academic stress and burnout.
Here's the reality: 88% of MVHS students take AP courses, making us one of California's most competitive schools. But that pressure comes at a cost—chronic stress, anxiety, and declining mental health. MindSpace is a web app that helps students find balance. It tracks your workload and cognitive load, predicting burnout before it happens. You log your mood and stress daily, and the app visualizes patterns—showing you when you're pushing too hard. It includes a smart Pomodoro timer that prompts mindfulness breaks, guided breathing exercises, and direct links to MVHS counseling resources. But here's what makes it powerful: MindSpace doesn't just track stress—it prevents it. Our burnout risk algorithm analyzes your workload, sleep, and stress patterns to give you early warnings and actionable recommendations. When you're overloaded, it suggests which tasks to postpone and reminds you it's okay to ask for help. This aligns perfectly with our school's partnership with Stanford's Challenge Success program, which redefines achievement to include wellbeing, not just grades. MindSpace isn't about doing less—it's about doing better while staying healthy. Every student at MVHS deserves to thrive, not just survive. With 1,600 potential users on our campus alone, this tool can transform our school culture from toxic competition to sustainable excellence. Because the best grade you can get is a healthy one.
