Inspiration ✍️
Hybrid work culture has helped us achieve the Work-Home balance, but somewhere made us lose the concept of “Learning through osmosis” in the work environment. We may not have noticed it, but that concept did make an impact on our personal growth. The ideas and motivation we absorb during those random conversations at the workspace are enormous. We know you miss it because we definitely do - Presenting you MindSpace
MindSpace is inspired by the currency convertor example. We were propelled forward by the idea of incorporating simple everyday tools that exist outside into the Atlassian ecosystem for their relevance and reachability.
The tool living within Project board has more relevance and context with enforcing best practices and thus enabling work life balance.
What it does
MindSpace is all about connecting, collaborating & sharing knowledge with your team and most importantly, with yourselves.
- Be Deep Rooted - This is all about one underrated thing - Routines. They are hard to keep up with, but if we do have one, they could be highly beneficial. And that is why we made creating & managing such work-day routines super easy. Confused about what kind of routine to create? Perhaps, you can take a routine from your favorite co-worker’s playbook or maybe share yours with them.
- Ring A Bell - Miss that ring-a-bell at the office when an achievement is made? Not anymore, Share the news with your team with ease and spread the joy like fire.
- Stay Updated - Share your updates with the team in a jiffy
- Knowledge Abundance - Found a hack or shortcut? What fun is it if you can’t share it with your folks? Create a post about your findings and discover those posted by your team.
How we built it
Built with forge/custom-ui and forge/storage-api, Mindspace is a JIRA project page module app that can be installed in workspaces.
Challenges we ran into
Forge being a completely new platform pretty much everything was challenging for us given that we had to unlearn lot of existing ideas.
- Forge's tunnelling in dev mode for custom-ui has had several issues in the past. Like these Navigating around them was challenging
- Getting accustomed to the forge's way of deploying and apps; should mention that it got super easy after learning
- Creatively using existing sophisticated components and available APIs to adhere and build to the theme
- Coming up and researching about the concept of routines with no prior experience about them, was challenging but fun at the same time
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Ending up participating as a rag-tag team of 2 , in platform so huge, where there are startups competing against for prize
- Understanding and covering basic forge docs in 2-3 days
- So proud of ideation process by our team that took a problem 1st approach, we were coming up with popular apps already in the Atlassian marketplace, without having taken a look there first.
- Gathered knowledge & material in hand so much, enough to respond to a community question
What we learned
- rapid application development : Although theoretically trained in the process, we learnt hands on application of the concept. Iterating Extensively
- Exposure to the FORGE platform, it opened us to the possibilities of building Apps outside of known Android & iOS distribution.
- From engineering side of things, it gave us perspective of how to compose APIs and what kind of tech-decisions that can be liberally taken on behalf of the customer, etc.
- Using JIRA for project management, always thought it to be for large enterprises but it worked out great for small scale as well
What's next for MindSpace
Our hack although comprehensive, isn't still complete, in terms of it's vision. here are somethings that are still on our minds
- BUG: Routines data not getting saved properly at times
- FEAT: importing hacks shared directly into Confluence document
- FEAT: cloning other people’s task into your own
- FEAT: enhanced analytics
- FEAT: Share your progress with your team mates
- Enable more creative ways of collaboration with a calming effect
In general MindSpace has the scope and potential to grow into suite of mental wellness products that can live within the JIRA + Atlassian products.
