Inspiration
Debate skills matter in life, but practice partners aren't always available. We wanted to create an arena where anyone could train anytime.
What it does
MindMelee is a voice-powered debate training platform. Speak your arguments in real-time, battle AI opponents in Coach or Fierce mode, and get instant performance analytics on 10+ metrics.
How we built it
Built with React, TypeScript, and Google Gemini Live API for real-time voice interaction. Used Kilo Code to rapidly prototype features, debug complex state management, and implement the neubrutalist UI with Framer Motion animations. Kilo's AI agent helped us refactor components and optimize the voice streaming logic.
Challenges we ran into
Real-time voice streaming was tricky - managing WebSocket connections, handling audio chunks, and syncing UI state. Kilo Code helped debug the async flow and suggested better error handling patterns.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The UI is bold and smooth. The voice interaction feels natural. The analytics dashboard actually helps users track improvement. We shipped a complete product in record time.
What we learned
Real-time voice AI is powerful but complex. Kilo Code accelerated development by handling boilerplate, suggesting architecture improvements, and catching bugs early. Neubrutalist design principles create memorable UIs.
What's next for MindMelee
Multi-player debates, more AI personas, mobile app, and integration with debate clubs for structured training programs.
