Inspiration

In today’s fast-paced world, mental well-being often takes a back seat. I wanted to build a tool that reminds people to care for their minds daily — just like they care for their bodies. That’s how MindMate was born — a personal mental wellness companion that fits in your pocket.

What it does

MindMate empowers users to: Track daily mood and reflections Get AI-generated motivational prompts Practice calming breathing exercises Stay consistent through simple mental fitness routines

How we built it

Platform: Bolt.new for primary development Mobile Runtime: Tested and optimized on Expo Go Design: Custom UI components with smooth user flow Backend: Local state handling (no external DB to keep it lightweight) Deployment: Packaged into an .apk via EAS Build

Challenges we ran into

Configuring native builds from Expo for Android using both EAS and Android Studio Handling image asset compatibility and prebuild issues Designing a minimalist UI that feels calming, not clinical Ensuring all features worked consistently in the Expo Go runtime

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a fully functional mental wellness app from scratch using Bolt.new Successfully converted an Expo project into an APK file using EAS Build for real device testing Designed a minimal, calming user interface that feels smooth and emotionally engaging Overcame image format and prebuild issues by debugging asset pipelines manually Ensured the app works seamlessly in Expo Go and is ready for broader Android deployment Crafted a meaningful product that can genuinely help people improve their daily mental health Learned to navigate the end-to-end submission process for a global hackathon

What we learned

How to use Bolt.new to rapidly prototype and deploy a full mobile app Managing UI/UX for mental wellness applications Converting Expo projects into production-ready .apk files The importance of micro-interactions in improving user retention

What's next for MindMate: Your Mental Wellness Companion
