Inspiration
Being overly dependent on AI tools such as ChatGPT, paired with mindless scrolling on social media, can reduce individuals’ creativity and critical thinking. Over time, this dependence may lead to long-term consequences for future generations by limiting cognitive development and problem-solving abilities. We wanted create an extension to serve as a solution to this major issue.
What it does
With this extension, MindGym helps you limit your time on social media and AI by blocking sites entered in the bottom section of the extension, and redirecting your attention to a productivity-focused environment, full of fun brain teasers to help get your mind racing with creativity.
How we built it
The front-end of the extension was designed using HTML and CSS. The function of the extension was coded using JavaScript and APIs.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was time management and availability between team members. It was difficult finding times to meet due to conflicting schedules.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Making sure that the code works as planned
- The extension being able to block websites
- Finishing within a short amount of time
What we learned
Overall, we learned how to utilize different coding languages to create a product that can be used to solve real-world problems such as AI overdependency and addiction to social media.
What's next for MindGym
Possibly a more variety of brain teasers/minigames with more time!
