Inspiration

My inspiration for MindGap is to help the teachers who are struggling to connect and communicate with their students and all the students who are struggling with their mental health, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of funding for mental health professionals at school.

What it does

MindGap allows students to record their current mood every day for each class and access various mental health resources. MindGap also allows teachers to see an overview of how their students are feeling so that they can better support them and refer them to professional support if needed.

How we built it

I built the mockup and prototype on Figma.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge I faced during this project was the time constraint. I discovered this hackathon three days before the submission deadline. Still, I wanted to properly go through the entire UX design process to design a great app. However, for the next few days, I would be sick in bed with a fever. I managed to persevere through the physical and mental challenges to create MindGap.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of the overall UI design of MindGap and also the research I conducted to come up with some of the features.

What we learned

I learned how to efficiently work under a strict timeline.

What's next for MindGap

  1. Teachers will be able to give "nudges" or small comments to encourage or show support to students
  2. Students and teachers will be able to view past mood entries. Students will also be able to duplicate their daily mood entries for other classes
  3. Implement an onboarding for students which can personalize their resources to suit their age group
