About the Project
Inspiration:
Our project is inspired by our experiences over the past two months on campus. As first-year students, we have faced significant challenges balancing academic demands with personal well-being. These struggles highlighted the need for an integrated solution to manage time and wellness effectively.
What We Learned:
Through conversations with campus wellness counselors and the student affairs officer, we discovered common issues: time management difficulties, work-life balance struggles, and limited access to wellness resources. We learned that many students find it challenging to access timely support due to fully booked counselors and a lack of structured wellness habits.
How We Built the Project:
Our solution is a mobile app designed to address these challenges. The app features:
Scheduler:
The scheduler uses an algorithm to efficiently organize tasks entered by a student based on deadlines, difficulty, and time preferences, while also prioritizing wellness activities like relaxation and exercise. There will be an option for students to edit the schedule, and in case a task is not completed within its allocated time, there will be a suggestion to move it to another optimal slot.
Wellness Content Feed:
The feed shares helpful stories on students' challenges and success stories on overcoming them through a podcast. The feed also contains wellness challenges around better sleeping habits, hydration, and more. It also gives destigmatizing content around mental health and includes memes for relaxation.
Habit Tracker:
From our interview with the wellness center, we learned that when counselors have sessions with students, they recommend healthy habits that students can adopt to improve their mental well-being. This habit tracker will allow students to choose a habit they want to work on, like sleep or meditation, and enable them to track these habits. This feature also incorporates streaks to improve engagement.
Resource Center:
It provides easy access to wellness resources such as links to book wellness sessions, a collection of events happening on campus and outside, especially fun activities to help students relax, and important hotline contacts.
Personality Test:
This feature will serve as a wellness check-in where students can monitor their well-being through surveys at key periods like the start of the semester, midterms, and exams. The application gives them the best results as well as recommendations. They can choose to share this information with a counselor when seeking help to review their wellness history.
The challenges you faced
One challenge we faced was difficulty reaching key contacts like Solid Minds due to their busy schedules, which delayed our research.
