Inspiration
I have struggled with my weight myself and wanted an effective, practical system to overcome it. While browsing Shipaton, I saw an ad about Abbey Sharp's Hunger Crushing Combo system. I was curious about the idea of managing hunger by combining foods differently rather than simply trying to eat less.
I wanted to see whether I could turn that concept into a practical AI-powered coach I could use every day. That became Satia.
What it does
Satia is an AI-powered mindful eating coach built around Hunger Crushing Combos. It helps combine foods in ways that make meals more satisfying and help keep hunger under control for longer.
How we built it
I built Satia as a mobile app using React Native, Expo, and Fastify, with AI generating personalized food recommendations based on what the user wants to eat.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was making AI advice practical. I didn't want another chatbot giving long, generic nutrition answers. Satia needed to provide simple suggestions that can actually be followed in everyday life.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that I turned an idea that caught my attention into a working mobile product that I can actually use. I also managed to turn the broad goal of “eat better” into a simple, focused coaching experience. And I have lost 2 kg along the way:)
What we learned
I learned that AI is most useful when it has a very specific job. Instead of asking AI to solve nutrition in general, Satia focuses on one problem: helping a person make their next meal more satisfying.
What's next for Mindful Eating Coach - Satia
My next goal is to test Satia with more real users, learn which recommendations are genuinely useful, and use that feedback to improve personalization and the overall coaching experience.
