Inspiration
As someone who’s just wrapped up a Computer Science degree, I found myself in that post-university limbo, juggling job applications, courses, side projects, and the pressure to "keep up" in tech. That hustle mindset quickly spiraled into burnout. I realised I needed something gentle that reminded me it’s okay to rest. Intentionally and without guilt. Mindful Breaks was born from that feeling.
What it does
Mindful breaks is a minimalist, soothing Pomodoro web app timer that encourages regular, intentional breaks during study or work sessions. it features:
- a simple timer with custom break durations
- a calming animated breathing exercise an aesthetic, distraction free interface
How we built it
HTML, CSS and JavaScript I designed the layout and color palette to be accessible, calm and clean GitHub and Git were used for version control as I was coding.
Challenges we ran into
I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, as mentioned before I've hit a burnout stage so I needed to remind myself to balance rest and creation. The app itself is a simple concept and so the coding and work to create should remain simple and not be bombarded with features to clutter the screen.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- finishing a solo project in a time I almost quit everything
- building something that is both useful and visually soothing
- creating something reflective of my current needs and mental state
- staying kind to myself during the process
What's next for Mindful Breaks
- adding sounds/ambience to the site (particularly for break periods)
- logs for users to monitor breaks and work
- mobile version?
- potential intergration with notion/google calendar
- fix a few bugs it has T-T
