Inspiration

With the amount of attention to one's mental health, more people are looking to get support but it is difficult to see who you connect well with. Minder solves this problem by tailoring patients' preferences and needs in order to match them with the right therapists. They can then manually filter out who they want to connect with. Minder provides all the information necessary for the patient to be well informed on the therapist and also give local therapists a platform to help others. Minder just made therapy personal.

What it does

Minder will collaborate with therapists, who will be asked for their personal data (name, age, qualifications, etc.). Once verified, their profiles will be added to a database. On the user side, Minder first asks for personal data (name, age, gender, location and accessibility needs) and mental health concerns. Then, it allows the patient to input their therapist preferences (distance, gender, hourly fee, ethnicity and language). We then sort our database of therapists based on the preferences and display therapists that best fit the responses. The recommendations are displayed in a dating app style format where patients are given an option to reject or accept a therapist suggestion. After the list is over, the therapist matches are displayed and include their contact info, personal data and reviews.

How we built it

We designed this project using Figma and Photoshop and built it using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

Since none of us had used any of these languages before, it was a big challenge for us to learn them quickly enough to build a functional project. We are really proud of getting the website to run!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the fact that we created a website for the first time without prior knowledge of the language and software. It was everyone's first times in their roles and we managed to get a functioning website.

What we learned

We learned a lot about working in a team and how the flow of web development goes. We also learned about Figma, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We implemented this while building our website.

What's next for Minder

We want to find therapists to collaborate with to build our database. Once we do that, we want to integrate an AI model into the website using an API which will allow us to sort the therapists more efficiently. We plan to add a Google Maps API that will allow users to find therapists closest to them. Also expanding the location to broadcast our product to a bigger customer base. Include a chatting feature for patients to communicate with their desired therapists to further enhance user experience. Additionally, improve website design and user experience while also looking into more psychological mechanisms to get users more excited to use the app, especially the concept of dopamine in the mesolimbic system.
