🌱 Inspiration
With the growing awareness around mental health, we noticed a gap in accessible, judgment-free tools for everyday emotional support. Not everyone feels comfortable seeking therapy, and many prefer a private space to process emotions. That insight led to the birth of MindEase — an AI-powered companion that encourages self-reflection, calming techniques, and emotional tracking, all in one place.
💡 What it does
MindEase is a web-based application that helps users:
- Reflect on their emotions through guided check-ins
- Receive AI-generated calming messages based on their feelings
- Access quick relaxation exercises like breathing and journaling prompts
- Track emotional trends over time using visual charts
- Explore self-care suggestions personalized to their mood
🛠️ How we built it
- React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, JavaScript for the frontend
- Tailwind CSS for styling with a soft orange-beige calming palette
- LocalStorage for emotion tracking and persistence
- Google Gemini API for AI-powered empathetic guidance and affirmations, with robust fallback responses based on mood detection
- Modular JavaScript for clear separation of concerns and maintainability
🧗 Challenges we ran into
- Balancing a minimal UI with multiple interactive features
- Ensuring the tone of responses is empathetic, non-clinical, and supportive
- Implementing mood charts while keeping it lightweight and responsive
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a soothing, inclusive user interface
- Successfully supporting different user moods with custom logic
- Building an experience that feels personal and non-intrusive
- Properly implementing Google Gemini API
📚 What we learned
- Designing for emotional UX requires a different approach than typical apps
- Frontend tools like Tailwind and LocalStorage can go a long way in creating MVPs
- Writing gentle, human-like message flows improves user trust
- Even without AI APIs, smart UX and logic can make a huge impact
🚀 What's next for MindEase AI
- Add user journaling, breathing timers, and motivational quotes
- Enable progressive web app (PWA) features for offline-first use
- Launch a weekly insights dashboard for tracking emotional well-being
- Collaborate with mental health experts for curated content
