.## Inspiration: I am always passionate about helping medical professionals due to my interest in health care field. One day I read a news about a story of nurse who resigned from hospital due to burnout. When I researched more about this news, I found that nurse was was burned out and working relentless 24 hour schedules for a week without break. Due to this high stress, she could not manage her work life balance and it led to her resignation and in turn created financial distress in her family. This heart touching story inspired me to build MindBridge that is a web app. This app helps health care offices to manage workload of nurses properly thereby reduce turnover of nurses.
What it does:
MindBridge is a web application that gives healthcare workers a 60-second burnout risk check-in at the start of every shift. It scores their risk level across three clinically validated dimensions, recommends a specific evidence-based micro-intervention matched to that risk level, and tracks their trend over time so that patterns become visible — to the nurse, and to the managers who can act on them.
How we built it:
We used below technologies to build this app. Python — primary programming language Flask — lightweight web framework serving the app in a browser HTML / CSS / JavaScript — complete front-end CSV via Python standard library — data persistence
Challenges we ran into
The most persistent challenge in presenting MindBridge is the question every one asks: 'Isn't this just a questionnaire?' The answer required us to deeply understand and clearly articulate what makes an algorithm AI versus a just a survey driven insight. The differentiating factors are differential weighting (not all questions contribute equally to the score), and trend analysis (the model tracks change over time, which enables pattern recognition that a one-time survey cannot perform). Another challenge is making this app working offline as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a platform independent, very interactive , user friendly, simple app that helps every healthcare worker to manage their workplace burnout.
What we learned
The science to help nurses already exists. The interventions work. The validated tools work. The EAP programs are funded. The charge nurses want to help. What is missing is the bridge between all of those resources and a nurse's 6am shift. Building that bridge — specific, timed, frictionless, matched to the individual's risk level — is the innovation. Not the science. The bridge.
What's next for MindBridge
The current version gives data to the nurse. Phase 2 gives aggregate, de-identified data to nurse managers — without exposing any individual nurse's personal scores. A manager dashboard would show: percentage of the team in each risk tier this week, trend direction (improving, stable, worsening), and a flag when a single team member has been at high risk for more than three consecutive check-ins. This transforms MindBridge from a personal wellness tool into a team management tool — giving charge nurses the early signal they need to redistribute workloads, approve schedule changes, or initiate a check-in conversation before a nurse reaches crisis. The individual nurse's privacy is protected by showing only aggregate and anonymized data to managers. No manager sees an individual score without that nurse's explicit consent.
