Inspiration
Across India, mental health challenges among college students have reached alarming levels. Issues like anxiety, depression, burnout, academic stress, sleep disorders, and social isolation are very common. In rural and semi-urban colleges, support is even harder to access due to:
Limited awareness about psychological well-being
Stigma associated with seeking professional help
Poor integration of technology-driven mental health solutions on campuses
Fear of judgment and lack of confidentiality
I wanted to create Mind-Well, a student-friendly, culturally relevant platform that provides instant emotional support, confidential counseling, peer interaction, and wellness resources, all while helping colleges detect trends and intervene early.
What it does
Mind-Well is a holistic digital mental health platform for students. It:
Provides an AI-guided chatbot for instant emotional support and stress screening
Lets students book anonymous counseling sessions with campus professionals
Offers a resource hub with videos, guided meditations, and wellness content in regional languages
Hosts a peer support platform moderated by trained student volunteers
Gives colleges an admin dashboard with anonymized analytics to detect trends and plan interventions
How we built it
Designed the AI chatbot to provide emotional first aid and screen stress using PHQ-9/GAD-7
Developed the confidential booking system for counselor appointments
Created the resource hub for wellness content and guided meditation
Built a peer support platform for moderated student interaction
Designed an admin dashboard to visualize anonymized student mental health data
Prototype created using Figma/Canva for visual representation of app flow
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring student privacy and confidentiality in all modules
Balancing AI support with professional counselor guidance
Designing for multiple languages and cultural inclusivity
Integrating different modules into a single intuitive interface
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developed a fully functional prototype demonstrating core features
Created a scalable and culturally sensitive platform tailored to Indian students
Designed a system that connects online AI support with offline counselors
Ensured privacy and anonymity, making it stigma-free
What we learned
How to design technology for social impact
Importance of cultural relevance and inclusivity in mental health apps
Basics of AI-driven chatbots and user interface design
How to integrate multiple modules for a seamless user experience
What's next for Mind-Well
