inspiration
The main reason that we decided to create this project is because personally as a woman, I found it incredibly unjust that products on the shelves targeted specifically towards women often cost dollars more than products targeted towards men. Understanding this, I know that I personally can’t be the only person that has experienced this injustice. Additionally, we understand that others may not be in the position to afford the extra couple dollars in order to pay for the product and instead they pay for other products to save money. Sometimes, these products may not give the user the result as intended, producing more good than harm. We created this project to bring awareness to others about pink tax.
what it does
Our project follows the experience of a woman choosing what to buy in the grocery store. She must choose between two different products. This project explores the injustices and challenges that many women face today in our society.
how we built it
We built this project using HTML and CSS. This project was done through Visual Studio Code after originally switching from Github. (we used github later to provide the code)
challenges we ran into
Our team faced many challenges during this hackathon. This was especially the case considering our team didn’t have much experience with hackathon or really coding in general. As a result of this, our team had to challenge ourselves in learning CSS and HTML in order to develop our final product.
accomplishments were proud of
We are especially proud of finishing this project and overcoming the challenges listed above. We are definitely excited in learning more about two coding languages that we have not really learned about before.
what we learned
Like mentioned above, we learned a lot from this hackathon like learning how to code in HTML and CSS and utilizing these coding applications.
whats next for mind the gap
We hope that our project can have some outreach to others and spread awareness about the common issue of the pink tax: where products directed towards women are priced higher than products directed towards men. Although it may not be possible, we hope that someday soon that these products directed towards women will drop in price and be the same price as products towards men.
