INSPIRATION AND WHAT WE LEARNT

  **MIND OVER MYTHS**

WHO WE ARE

A team focused on bridging the mental health gap amongst the population worldwide to promote international peace and cooperation.

MISSION: Providing the population with the right sources of information and health guidelines to improve the health of populations (physical and mental wise).

THE PROBLEM

Fake news cycle and its impact on health and humanity

The use of mobile, digital tools and social media have become an indispensable part of everyday life worldwide.

More than 4.5 billion people now use the internet, while social media users have passed the 3.8 billion mark. Nearly 60 percent of the world’s population is already online. (According to [Digital 2020 reports])

Hence we find ourselves in the information age. Since information impacts our day to day decisions. We tend to form ideas about people or situations by obtaining information. So if the information we see on the internet is false, exaggerated or distorted, we won’t make good decisions.

EFFECTS

  1. Fake and misleading news stories related to medical treatments and major diseases affect physical and mental health. The mental health impact is so huge that according to the WHO someone loses their life to suicide every 40 seconds.

  2. Also we tend to form racist ideas and in turn promotes violence which distorts international peace.

SOLUTION

We are focused on breaking the fake news cycle

Provision of mental health tips

Making various countries' COVID 19 hotlines accessible. As well as suicide hotlines.

Provision of a chatbot to educate and update the public on preventive measures and answer all questions related to covid 19 and mental health.

Providing health personnel with the necessary digital tools for diagnosing and managing patients with COVID 19

TARGET AUDIENCE

54 commonwealth countries and still counting.

HOW WE BUILT

I started designing the user interface with Adobe XD, which I implemented in Flutter Framework using Visual Studio code. During the designing, progress, research was made about the effective preventive measures which were later added to the app under the resources section. The frontend UI was later backed up with logics to make it fully functional.

CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED

I encountered a few challenges during the implementation phase. One of the pressing concerns was getting a working API to fetch new articles concerning COVID 19. Also, another challenge was implementing a Dialogflow for a chatbot for the app which would address concerns of COVID-19 related issues.
