Inspiration
The inspiration for Mind Anchor stemmed from a personal connection to memory loss. Witnessing the struggles of those with dementia motivated me to create a platform that could serve as both a helpful tool and an enjoyable experience. I wanted to design simple, accessible games that could enhance cognitive functions, particularly memory, for people of all ages, especially those with dementia.
What it does
Mind Anchor offers three engaging games designed to improve memory and cognitive skills. The Card Memory Match Game sharpens recall abilities, the Spelling Bee enhances language skills and word recognition, and the Wordle clone challenges users with daily word puzzles that test and improve their vocabulary and problem-solving skills. These games are easy to play but provide meaningful mental exercise.
How we built it
As the sole developer, I designed and built the entire platform from scratch. I started with wireframes and basic layouts, ensuring that the design was both intuitive and accessible. Each game was coded using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, focusing on creating a smooth and responsive user experience. The site’s aesthetic was carefully curated to match the calming and minimalistic style that would appeal to users of all ages.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that the games were both fun and cognitively beneficial. Balancing simplicity with engagement required multiple iterations and feedback loops. Additionally, as a 15-year-old student managing schoolwork and development was a challenge, but it was a rewarding experience that taught me the importance of time management and perseverance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud to have created a fully functional website with three unique games that can genuinely help people improve their memory. Seeing my vision come to life and knowing that it could have a positive impact on people’s lives is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, being able to develop this project independently at such a young age is something I’m very proud of.
What we learned
Throughout the development of Mind Anchor, I learned a lot about the importance of user-centered design, particularly for an audience that may not be tech-savvy. I also honed my skills in front-end development, learning how to build responsive, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing web pages. This project also reinforced the importance of persistence and adaptability when facing technical and time-related challenges.
What's next for Mind Anchor
The next step for Mind Anchor is to expand the range of games offered and to gather feedback from users to refine and improve the current games. I also plan to integrate data tracking to allow users to monitor their progress over time. Eventually, I hope to collaborate with experts in cognitive science to ensure that the games are as effective as possible in improving memory and cognitive functions. The ultimate goal is to make Mind Anchor a go-to platform for anyone looking to enhance their cognitive abilities, whether they are dealing with memory loss or simply looking to keep their mind sharp.
