Inspiration

A year ago when I started college I faced new challenges and some of them in some way affected my mental health for a while, I didn't know back then but now when I think about I realize that yes I was dealing with some mental health problems and meeting a therapist would have helped a lot. So now that I learned a little app dev over the summer I thought I should make something to help people like me.

What it does

The app is like a step before meeting a therapist. People might not go to a therapist directly for many reasons, maybe they're shy or don't feel the need to. The app has Mental Health exercises that can help you understand more about yourself, recording your thoughts and emotions, and questioning them. It tries to replace traditional worksheets by providing easier access and management of mental health exercises.

How I built it

I applied my learnings from the online summer courses I did earlier this year and made a simple app in Xcode using the language swift and core data.

Challenges I ran into

I have made a few similar simple apps before but all following video tutorials. This is the first app that I started on my own. I don't know much about app dev yet so I used websites like StackOverflow for help. Only one of the exercises is complete, the other three that I've planned will get added soon.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Making an app on my own from scratch. Conceptualizing, designing, and coding it all by myself while participating in my first hackathon. I've learned a lot from this project and will continue to work on it.

What I learned

I learned about thinking about a problem, looking for a solution, think of a way to integrate the solution in an app, so it was kind of my first project. I learned things like how to use a scroll view, use date and time, add an icon for the app. I had never worked with so many View Controllers before so that was also a good learning experience.

What's next for MIN HEALTH

I plan to include something like Sentiment Analysis so that the app can recognize how the user is feeling and help him in better ways by providing them resources like books, videos, exercises, or connecting them with a therapist, depending upon what it makes up of the user's condition.
