💡 Inspiration
Traditional sensory awareness and productivity systems fail because they are designed from the ground up for neurotypical users. MimicEcho AI addresses a critical gap: neurodivergent individuals frequently lack real-time sensory awareness tools tailored to their unique cognitive processing. We wanted to build a sensory translation interface designed explicitly for neurodivergent cognition, prioritizing accessibility first.
🚀 What it does
MimicEcho AI is an intelligent interface that continuously monitors and assists the user's cognitive state. By tracking biometric baselines, the system accurately detects three core neurological states:
- Flow: Optimal focus and calm execution.
- Overload: High cognitive load signaling sensory fatigue.
- Shutdown: Critical fatigue requiring immediate withdrawal.
The platform provides targeted interventions through six integrated modules, delivering predictive overload alerts and featuring a unique communication bridge that translates internal sensory states into clear, external language for others.
🛠️ How we built it
We developed a highly responsive, modern web architecture centered around accessibility:
- Web Audio API: Leveraged for non-invasive, microphone-based real-time breathing synchronization.
- Framer Motion: Powering state-driven, fluid visual feedback that adapts safely to user states.
- React: Ensuring a modular, fast, and highly interactive user interface layout.
- WCAG Compliance & Reduced Motion: Designed with strict accessibility standards to prevent triggering sensory distress.
🧠 Challenges we ran into & Learning
Balancing continuous real-time audio analysis with strict privacy standards was a significant hurdle. We also focused heavily on direct validation with neurodivergent users to ensure the interface genuinely serves their needs, rather than relying on neurotypical assumptions. This process taught us the immense value of co-designing assistive technology alongside the community it serves.
