Inspiration

We made Milo because we wanted to help senior citizens learn how to use technology. A lot of seniors struggle with things like texting, email, WiFi, and video calls. Most resources are either too hard to understand or not interesting. We wanted to build something simple, fun, and helpful that makes learning tech easier.

What it does

Milo is a gamified learning app for senior citizens. It teaches basic tech skills through short lessons and quizzes. Users earn XP, badges, and levels as they learn. There is also an AI tutor that helps explain things in a simple way. Each senior center has its own leaderboard so users can compete with people they know and stay motivated.

How we built it

We built Milo using Expo Go and React Native so we could make a mobile app that works on different phones. We created lessons for topics like texting, email, WiFi, passwords, and video calls. After each lesson, users take a quiz to earn XP. We also added an AI tutor that answers questions and a leaderboard system for each senior center.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was making everything simple enough for seniors while still keeping it useful. Another challenge was making sure the AI tutor explains things clearly without giving away quiz answers. We also had to make sure the app was easy to use for people who may not be very comfortable with technology.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we built a working app that can actually help seniors learn tech skills. We also built a full gamification system with XP, badges, and levels. The AI tutor works well and helps users understand topics. We are also proud of the leaderboard because it makes learning more fun and social.

What we learned

We learned that simplicity is very important when designing for seniors. We also learned how useful gamification can be for keeping people motivated. Another big thing we learned is how to use AI in a helpful way without making it do all the work for the user.

What's next for Milo

Next, we want to add more lessons and cover more real-life tech skills. We also want to improve the AI tutor so it gives even better explanations. We plan to test Milo with real senior centers and improve it based on feedback. We also want to add more social features so seniors can learn together and help each other more.
