Inspiration

The project was inspired by a unique moment — the symbolic 1,000th anniversary of the Kingdom of Poland. We wanted to create a work that not only commemorates this milestone but allows viewers to feel the emotional weight of a millennium of Polish statehood. In collaboration with historians and researchers, we reconstructed the crown and the appearance of Poland’s first king, offering a renewed and respectful perspective on the origins of the Polish nation.

What it does

“Millennium of the Kingdom of Poland” presents a symbolic, cinematic vision of the birth of the Polish state. It combines historical reconstruction, generative AI, and visual storytelling to portray Poland as a community rooted in tradition, culture, and spiritual heritage. The film revitalizes historical imagination, making the past more tangible and emotionally engaging.

How we built it

Close collaboration with historians, archaeologists, and specialists in early Piast-era iconography. Generative reconstruction of the crown, regalia, and the face of Poland’s first king. A cinematic approach to lighting, composition, and symbolic imagery. Integration of AI with traditional post-production techniques to achieve a monumental, regal look. Detail-focused work on materials like metal, gold, fabrics, and armor to ensure artifact-level authenticity.

Challenges we ran into

Achieving historical accuracy with limited visual references. Balancing symbolic storytelling with factual credibility. Controlling generative AI to avoid over-stylization or anachronistic elements. Maintaining a respectful, dignified tone while delivering visually striking imagery. Seamlessly merging scientific reconstruction with cinematic emotion.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Reconstructing the face of Poland’s first king in a way that is both scientifically grounded and visually compelling. Creating a cohesive, majestic visual language that bridges history, symbolism, and modern technology. Designing a crown and regalia that feel like authentic artifacts from the era. Crafting a narrative that resonates emotionally with a wide audience. Demonstrating how AI can support historical storytelling with subtlety and artistic depth.

What we learned

Cross-disciplinary collaboration between art, science, and technology opens new horizons for historical reconstruction. AI becomes powerful when anchored in data and guided by a clear artistic vision. Symbolism often communicates heritage and identity more meaningfully than literal representations. The key is balance: technology must serve history, not overshadow it.

What's next for Millennium of the Kingdom of Poland

Expanding the project into a full film featuring narration, music, and broader historical context. Developing a series of reconstructions of early Polish kings and artifacts. Creating a museum exhibition or immersive audiovisual installation. Preparing educational versions for schools and cultural institutions. Designing an interactive experience allowing viewers to explore reconstructed details up close.
