Making it quick and easy to find new places and things to do when you are bored of the same old same old, while simultaneously promoting new businesses and making it much more user friendly and intuitive to search for deals and things that millennials want.
What it does
This application makes it easier for your friends and you to find new places to go to for anything from Taco Tuesdays, to Tattoos shops. These businesses will use the platform to promote their product and bring in customers by offering different deals. There will be a slide based GUI with Facebook integration to allow for messaging and leaving reviews. There will also be an added ability to split the check between your friends using Venmo as a payment transfer option.
How I built it
For this early proof of concept I used WhenHub to show how a graphical lay out with business information pulled from Yelp to show that the idea of combining several existing apps into one graphical, easy to use, and fluid interface can drastically increase your ability to find new places to eat and help businesses promote their products to the proper audiences.
Challenges I ran into
Trying to gather information that was not openly offered on Yelp such as specific deals that change often. I also ran into and issue of trying to create sections that are broad enough to reach a wide range of people and businesses but specific enough so that there is a clear divide between categories.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Its been an idea I have been fiddling around with making for a long time. I finally decided to try and make a proof of concept when I entered this event and they changed the category to best over hack unrelated to the other categories.
What I learned
It is going to be a lot more work to make this look as fluid, sleek, and modern as I would like. It is also going to be very complex to input all the data for the different business and divide them into the different sections we will be offering.
What's next for Millennial Maps
To now further develop and progress towards completing an iOS application using the different API's and GUI required.
