Inspiration

Tools such as Clockwise and Calendly serve a purpose in either making meetings easier to organise, or moving them to increase focus time. However, we found these tools only go halfway in helping to improve meeting efficiency. We think if you bring insights, such as wasted time and money, availability and a continous feedback loop (mixig in a sprinkle of AI of course), you could make laborious useless meetings a thing of the past.

What it does

Our app provides a dashboard, booking planning and AI reccomendations in order to help managers optimize the meetings they book. By exposing exactly how much each meetings is costing, based on the participants, we also ground the real value of the time being spent there.

How we built it

We used a Ruby on Rails backend with a React frontend. Ruby on Rails provided an in built ORM and general database management, while our team had a strong understanding of React. So we saw this as the best mix between new learning opportunities and execution expectations.

Challenges we ran into

We found Ruby on Rails to be a more challenging framework to use than expected. We found ourselves having to re learn how to configure our code with ruby's almost, but not quite, pythonic nature.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We implemented strong security practices using SSO with Google, which is the most reccomended method of sign in nowadays. We also used our own JWT for handling frontend/backend client management to maintain that security.

What we learned

We learnt about Ruby on Rails, of course, and more importantly, how to work thorugh problems as a team and not just settle on the fastest and dirtiest solution we could find, but think about the implications for future development.

What's next for Mii-tings

We plan to implement new features and improve existing ones. Specifically, our dashboard overview and providing deeper insights into the feedback and experiences of employees attending meetings. We also are really interested in devleoping our AI reccomendations tool to become more and more tailored to the customers and their coworkers.
