Inspiration

Inspiration was best price performance in EC2 instances. 40% less cost is important all companies. So to get familiar with graviton2 instances I installed an open source e-commerce .net application on C6g and its database on t4g instances

What it does

My application front end is e-commerce website written in .net5 programming language, and backend is RDS database running on graviton2 instance t4g. My open source e-commerce application is from link

How we built it

Used Visual Studio Code Editor to run and build the application Launch EC2 instance For this open source project you need Ubuntu Server 20.04 AMI 64 -bit ARM, as there are 13Mb of C# sources, 3000 source files, and 800 views choosing c6g.large compute-optimized instance type that offers 2 vCPU and 4GB of memory works best

*Install .Net 5 SDK * Microsoft offers binary for Arm64, we can download it from Microsoft website and install it on Ec2 instance link Test with installing a sample ASP.Net 5 application to see all configuration so far are correct

Launch Aurora PostgreSQL database Follow standard procedure on management console to create PostgreSQL except choose Graviton2 instance to run it. Created security group to get TCP MySQL connection from Ec2 instance security group

Build and Launch NopCommerce As it a open source project we can get the nopCommerce git repository link After downloading on the Ec2 instance we need to build the application and run it. This will create database and new tables on RDS Postgres database we launched

Challenges we ran into

Looking for ARM-64 .Net binary file on microsoft site to install .Net.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we learned

Graviton2 instance need ARM AMIs and Graviton2 instance names different and have 'g' in them like C6g About nopCommerce nopCommerce is the leading ASP.NET based open-source eCommerce platform. nopCommerce is great example of an open-source product. nopCommerce runs on ASP.NET Core 5. nopCommerce is cross-platform, so we can run it on Linux. nopCommerce supports PostgreSQL database, so we can use Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL compatibility.

What's next for your application

Having a Route53 to point to ELB and having Autoscaling group and Launch Configuration. and create Cloudformation template
