Inspiration

MigrantBot was inspired by the millions of people who leave their home countries every year in search of better opportunities, only to face overwhelming barriers the moment they begin their job hunt. From confusing paperwork and language challenges to the lack of accessible guidance, we saw how something as simple as not understanding an application form could hold a skilled worker back from securing a life-changing opportunity. We wanted to build a tool that feels human, friendly, and familiar—something anyone could use with nothing more than their voice. That vision became MigrantBot, a phone-based AI assistant designed to make the global job search as effortless as having a conversation.

What it does

MigrantBot allows migrants to find jobs abroad through a simple two-minute phone call conducted entirely in their own language. Instead of navigating complicated job portals or filling out endless forms, users simply speak to the AI, share their skills, experience, and dreams, and immediately receive personalized job matches in countries where opportunities truly fit them. The agent also offers guidance on visas, local culture, and next steps, making the entire migration journey feel less intimidating and much more accessible. For employers, MigrantBot becomes a direct and reliable channel to a global talent pool of motivated workers.

How we built it

We built MigrantBot by combining multilingual speech recognition, natural language understanding, and an intelligent job-matching engine into a seamless voice-first experience. The system integrates telephony APIs to automatically call users back, reducing costs while keeping the experience accessible on any mobile phone—even without internet. The conversation engine listens to the user’s background, interprets their skills, and converts natural speech into structured candidate profiles. These profiles are then matched with available opportunities using a rules-based and ML-assisted pipeline. Everything is wrapped in a simple backend that stores candidate data securely and generates tailored recommendations in real time.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring reliable multilingual voice recognition across diverse accents, especially when dealing with noisy environments or low-quality phone connections. Designing conversations that felt natural and empathetic also required significant iteration; we wanted the agent to guide users without overwhelming them. On the technical side, mapping informal speech to proper job categories and visa requirements proved tricky, as did integrating job data from different countries in a consistent way. Ensuring privacy and compliance while handling sensitive user information was another challenge we approached with great care.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that MigrantBot now enables anyone—regardless of literacy level, access to devices, or language proficiency—to take their first step toward working abroad through nothing more than a simple conversation. Building a system that can understand real-world accents, extract meaningful skills, and return relevant job matches in seconds felt incredibly rewarding. More importantly, hearing real users say that this was the first time they felt the process was “simple” and “human” validated our mission more than anything.

What we learned

Throughout this journey, we learned just how deeply communication barriers affect the migration process and how powerful AI can be when designed around real human needs. We discovered that voice interfaces demand a different style of UX—one built on empathy, simplicity, and anticipation of user hesitation. We also learned a great deal about global employment ecosystems, visa policies, and the complexity of cross-border hiring. Most importantly, we learned that technology alone isn’t enough; it must be accessible, trustworthy, and culturally aware to truly make an impact.

What's next for MigrantBot

Next, we plan to expand MigrantBot into a full ecosystem that supports migrants throughout their journey, not just in finding jobs. This includes adding personalized visa guidance, localized cultural onboarding, employer-side dashboards, and an integrated support system to ensure every user feels confident at every step. We are also working toward partnering with governments, NGOs, and international employers to scale the platform globally. Our goal is simple: make safe, informed, and dignified migration possible for millions of people through the power of voice and AI.
