Middle Technology – Project Story

About the Project Middle Technology is a tech-driven initiative founded to empower youth, educators, entrepreneurs, and government institutions in underserved communities—starting from Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria. The project combines graphic design, web development, and digital training to bridge the digital divide through creativity, innovation, and skill-building.

Inspiration

The idea was born out of a personal experience: witnessing firsthand how many talented individuals lack access to digital tools and knowledge that could transform their lives and businesses. I realized that if people could be trained, equipped, and guided, they would create solutions, improve livelihoods, and spark local innovation.

This motivation—combined with my passion for technology—led to the creation of Middle Technology, a space where design meets training and transformation begins.

🛠 How I Built the Project

I began with minimal resources—a laptop, passion, and access to free tools like:

Figma and Canva for UI/graphic design

Glide and Google Sheets for no-code app development

WordPress and Blogger for building web presence

CapCut and YouTube for video editing and tutorials

Google Forms for learner registration and feedback

I created the initial training curriculum by combining open-source resources and personal learning from programs like 3MTT, ALX AiCE, and YouTube tutorials.

The first phase focused on:

Teaching basic digital skills to young people in the community

Helping small businesses with digital branding

Creating simple websites and business profiles

Launching a training portal using Glide (no-code)

What I Learned

Throughout this journey, I’ve learned:

How to plan and manage digital projects from scratch

The power of no-code tools in solving real problems quickly

How to engage learners, track progress, and iterate training methods

That design thinking and user feedback are key to building useful tech

Collaboration and persistence go a long way—even when funds are low

I also improved my skills in public speaking, community engagement, and digital facilitation.

Challenges I Faced

Like every meaningful project, I encountered many challenges:

Limited funding: I had to bootstrap everything, from internet access to training materials

Lack of stable power supply: Sometimes, training sessions were delayed due to electricity issues

Device limitations: Many participants didn’t have laptops or smartphones, so I had to adapt the sessions

Internet issues: Uploading content or running live sessions required creative solutions like mobile hotspots

Building trust: It took time to convince local people that digital skills were not just for "big cities"

Yet, each challenge taught me to innovate, adapt, and stay focused on impact.

The Journey Continues Middle Technology is evolving. We’re planning to launch a physical Innovation Hub, expand into AI training, and collaborate with local institutions and global programs like 3MTT to reach more learners.

We believe that technology is not just for the privileged—it’s for everyone willing to learn, build and grow.
