Inspiration

We were inspired by the game "Papers Please", a game where you act as a border control guard letting people into and out of your country.

We wanted to focus our game on a different subject though: sustainability. We understood that the prize tracks were exclusive but enjoyed playing with the idea of making a game focusing on sustainable themes. We really got going though when we decided to have the protagonist make hard decisions.

What it does

You can't always be perfect.

In Middle Mismanagement you have to make proverbial deals with the devil, trading air quality for much -needed energy and funds. Then you try to counteract the damage by spending your money, or breathing room, on green solutions and fixes.

You progress through timed levels as it becomes more and more difficult to parse and understand exactly what it is you're signing off on. Watch out that nothing you pass through is really an oil pipeline in disguise.

How we built it

Using Github as our source control and Godot as our game engine we built this game with our bare hands ... and chatGPT

Challenges we ran into

As always with a turbo-iterative environment, with no time on the clock and wanton disregard for proper procedure we ran into our fair share of merge-conflicts, refactoring issues, and many more short-sighted problems. Nothing too major though, seems our days of being stumped by git or project exports is behind us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're quite proud of how it looks considering our lack for artistic flair and ability. We're also happy about our scope, hackathons are famous for getting out of hand or being way too ambitious, but we really knew our limits this round.

What we learned

We had some members new to Godot and game design in genreal, others dove deeper into LLMs than they had before, And may of us refined our skills of stacking .get_parent().get_parent().get_parent().get_child().get_child().
