Inspiration
The inspiration for this project was through the challenges each of us faced in our lives during our school years. Where we didn't have any platform to practice in a way that was truly beneficial to the way we learned. We have aimed to address these struggles by developing a platform that could potentially (hopefully) tackle this issue.
What it does
Our project focuses on building for just one reason, practice. Like our motto we want students to be able to progress through their classes with social support, academic feedback, and dynamic practice problems.
How we built it
Frontend: The front end is built using Next.js. This includes React.js and other dependencies. We also used Canva to design the logos. Backend: For the backend we are (still trying!) using flask to handle the file uploads from the user, and then have the feedback we generate show up for the user. We have built a way for someone to upload a json file of questions and answers to convert into a pdf format and also be able to read that file and recognize how correct the end user is.
Challenges we ran into
It was the first hackathon for most of us so it was challenging to build a working full stack website in just 48 hours. We learnt the react.js and next.js frameworks and directly jumped to the implementation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- navigation bar implementation
- extracting submitted handwriting and text
- giving feedback to the students
- building the UI and design
What we learned
We learned how to a complete app (front- end and back-end) is build using react, next.js, flask and python. We learned more on what dependencies do we actually need for making a dashboard application and also how to curate the UX design.
What's next for Mid-Step
We're planning to integrate the front end with the back-end completely. In the long term, we're planning to build the social component of the app.
