Inspiration
My friends and I have always utilized online messaging and we always thought that we could make a better collaboration service.
What it does
MICRODOT is a secure chat service where clients can send and receive messages. To access chat rooms with associates share specific codes that are shared with the intended recipients. The intended recipients then enter the code into the homepage where they are redirected to the private chat room.
How we built it
We utilized a combination of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Java. We used node.js for hosting.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was that our team was split for the first of the event. Ben was stranded and alone at the event while his other team member, Simon, was in Frederick, Maryland taking the ACT. This reduced the number of things that we were capable of doing. Also, having no experience
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishment we are most proud of is the fact that we created a public application using our own code and hosting resources in just 8 hours. One of our team members was also taking the ACT this morning and we are pleased we were able to overcome this challenge and reduce the effects of this setback by communicating effectively over the phone.
What we learned
We learned about node.js and how to efficiently execute tasks in tandem with HTML/CSS/javascript.
What's next for MICRODOT
We plan to continue to develop this application so that it can be used easily. We also want to perfect the css and make the chat room function faster, more efficient, and cleaner. We also aim to add a high level of encryption to the chat function to ensure that the user's data is safe and secure.
