ThinkOff – Daily Decision Duel
Inspiration
Reddit thrives on debate, opinions, and shared daily rituals. From hot takes to moral dilemmas, some of the most engaging threads are simple questions that divide the room.
We noticed that while Reddit has great discussions, there isn't a structured daily interactive experience built specifically to spark debate and friendly rivalry.
ThinkOff was inspired by a simple idea:
What if Reddit had a daily decision duel where everyone faces the same dilemma and defends their choice?
Instead of passive scrolling, ThinkOff creates a daily moment of active thinking and comparison.
What it does
ThinkOff is a daily interactive Reddit game built using Devvit Web.
Every day:
- All users see the same dilemma
- Users choose between 2 or 3 clearly defined options
- Results instantly reveal how Reddit voted (percentage split)
- Players are encouraged to defend their reasoning in the comments
- The challenge resets every 24 hours
The experience is fast, frictionless, and designed for mobile-first interaction.
It transforms opinions into a game — and debate into engagement.
How we built it
ThinkOff was built using:
- Devvit Web
- Reddit Interactive Posts
- React-based UI components
- Persistent storage for tracking daily votes
Architecture Overview
- A single global dilemma is generated each day
- All users interact with the same daily scenario
- User selections are recorded per day
- Vote percentages are calculated dynamically
- Results update instantly after a choice is made
- The dilemma automatically refreshes every 24 hours
The UI was designed to be clean, bold, and touch-friendly for mobile users.
Challenges we ran into
1. Designing Debate-Worthy Dilemmas
We needed scenarios that are balanced, thought-provoking, and not obvious — ensuring meaningful discussion rather than predictable results.
2. Creating a True Daily Reset
Ensuring that all users see the same fresh challenge every day required careful handling of time-based logic.
3. Balancing Simplicity with Engagement
We intentionally kept the mechanic simple while making the results feel competitive and dynamic.
4. Mobile Optimization
Since most Reddit users are on mobile, we built large tap targets, clear typography, and zero reliance on hover interactions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a fully functional daily interactive Reddit game
- Designed a mechanic that naturally drives comment discussion
- Implemented real-time vote percentage updates
- Created a polished, mobile-first experience
- Delivered a launch-ready daily ritual concept
What we learned
- Simple mechanics drive stronger engagement than complex systems
- Reddit-native design is more important than flashy visuals
- Shared daily experiences increase return visits
- Clear prompts reduce hesitation and increase participation
We also learned that structured debate is one of the most powerful engagement tools on Reddit.
What's next for ThinkOff – Daily Decision Duel
Future improvements include:
- Streak tracking for daily participation
- Weekly themed debate cycles
- Community-submitted dilemmas
- Leaderboards based on consistency
- Visual breakdowns of how different communities vote
Our goal is to make ThinkOff a daily ritual across Reddit — a place where opinions clash, perspectives expand, and discussion thrives.
