Inspiration
We like games, and everybody has to go shopping no matter the budget. We wanted to create a game that teaches the user in-game in which ways they can influence their own Co2 efficiency and reduce their emissions and sharpen their senses on their buying habits. We were inspired by apps like AFK Arena, Duolingo, Famarama, Empire four kingdoms.
What it does
The game takes you to Flinn’s home. Where life isn’t as good as it could be. Through shops, mini-games, interaction with real-life products the user can improve on their CO2 efficiency and gain popularity to level up and unlock more options. This game connects the real world with the in-game world and can be used in many ways, for example, to promote CO2 friendly products.
This app, so far, just gives an idea for a long-term game, which will need a proper team to update, debug and take care of, like any other good and famous simulation App-game on the market.
How we built it
We started with a game mechanics concept on paper. So, we made sure all cause and effects could be implemented with purpose and achieved so that the user would like to play the game in the long run. We then started drawing locations, icons, buttons and objects for the game and coding once our developer/programmer and software was ready to go.
Challenges we ran into
We were a team of two and none of us has used Android-studio so far, it took a while to get things running.
We only had one programmer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We love our mascot version of Flinn. We even shared him and his upgraded versions with another group, who gave us feedback and ideas. Check them out! #Sustainley This was our first game in Android-Studio so we are proud of how far we got and the overall image/feeling we were able to create.
What we learned
Our programmer learned tons about coding games. Our Designer learned how to plan for the future, drawing game-related images, planning ahead, getting to know what is possible in coding and what is not. We both learned to manage time and cut things that are not possible to integrate and instead tease them.
