Inspiration
The constant pressure from social media, academic achievement, and work performance, only to name a few, is taking a toll on the mental well-being of young people and adults alike. With the continuous advancement of artificial intelligence, I believe it is high time AI is used to help make mental health care accessible and widely available. That's why I developed 'Mia,' an AI friend dedicated to helping people manage their mental well-being. The concept of using AI to assist in addressing mental health issues is not new. However, with Mia, I have attempted to solve certain problems that I felt were not being addressed with the current AI tools. The first issue being the ease of use. To utilize Mia, all you need to do is enter how you are feeling on a scale of 1 to 10, ranging from a bad day to a great day. Mia will then try to provide you with words of encouragement to help lift your spirits. If you feel like you need to talk and get things off your chest, Mia also has a chat feature where you can converse with it as much as you want.
(N.B. Mia is a companion, not a replacement for professional help so please look for professional help first if possible)
What it does
Mia is meant to be the shoulder you lie on after every day. This AI app is built to talk to you and be there for you to help you manage your mental health. To use it just enter how you feel on a scale of 1 to 10 (bad day - Great day) and it will respond with words of encouragement according to how you feel. If just entering your mood is not enough, Mia also has a chat feature where you can converse with it about how you feel.
How I built it
Mia was built using Amazon Web Services Party Rock Platform which is a no-code tool that allows you to build AI apps with no code
Challenges I ran into
Using Party Rock is fairly easy and I did not face any major challenges. Though I wish it had audio capabilities to enhance the app's ability to interact with people
Accomplishments that I am proud of
I was able to create a fully functional AI mental health wellness app.
What I learned
I learned about manipulating AI models to produce desired outputs.
What's next for Mia
I believe adding audio feedback will help Mia achieve its ultimate purpose, so that's my next challenge. Stay tuned!
