Inspiration

Do you want to find the perfect vacation spot, but don't know how to? This is the problem faced by many people in today's world. Even though so much information exists out there, they are unable to find the best vacation spot, which fits their needs and wants. Countless hours get wasted browsing on places in websites such as TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, TripExpert, etc. This inspired us to create Mi Viaja, which finds the ideal destination for the user, based on their input. Mi Viaja means my travels in Spanish and this was the perfect name for our website.

What it does

Our website, Mi Viaja, helps people to find the ideal vacation spot. Once the user comes to our website, they will have the option to create an account or login. If they want to create an account, they'll need to fill in their personal info (name, email, location, etc). Once the user has an account, they can do two things. Firstly, they can take a short quiz, which asks simple questions regarding the type of trip they are looking for and takes in their input. The results page, which is the Places tab, will show destinations that match according to what the user desires. The user can browse for places and save them onto their profile. When they click on one of the choices, a detailed view about the place will be shown, including airline tickets, travel package, additional resources etc. With this website, we hope to make travel planning easy for everyone.

We used Figma for design and React JS for front-end.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we faced was coming up with a feasible idea for the project. We had to come up with something that did not already exist in today's society and that we could implement within the given time frame. Additionally, we needed two more members for our team but we were unable find any.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to complete the project in the given time frame. We used a modern and minimalistic design that made the website easy to use and be fully functional. Moreover, our team members sharpened their front-end and designing skills.

What we learned

We learnt how to efficiently collaborate with other developers as well as how to make a fully functional website. We also learnt how to help each other out when needed.

What's next for Mi Viaja

Building a mobile app for the project and adding more features(purchasing hotel, adding payment methods etc.) We also want to implement backend development and possibly incorporate machine learning, for more customized use.
