Inspiration
Every member of the team had a situation in where they had to go with a new doctor. When this happens, they remake your medical history for the millionth time. it is 2018! that shouldn't happen. Nonetheless it happens a lot and in almost every country around the world.
What it does
It keeps your medical records in one place, safe but accessible for your doctor(s). and not only that, it also allows your lab results to be uploaded as well as any treatment indications you get from your doctor.
How we built it
We made a PWA which handles 2 user cases (doctor and patient). An android app and an iOS app which handles only the patient's case. We built our backend services using Google's amazing serverless infrastructure services (Firebase). That allowed us to focus on the overall experience and idea of the project.
Challenges we ran into
Handling health information is not only dangerous (since it is sensible information). We realized it's also a lot of information to handle and there are many third parities involved (pharmacies, hospitals, labs, among others). That challenged us to create very well defined but also flexible data structures.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to create a full PWA, an iOS app and an Android app in 24 hours!! That's pretty good We realiced we can do more than what we thought we could.
What we learned
It is very important to sit and plan the project before even starting to write a single line of code. Specially if it involves several platforms.
What's next for Mi Expediente
Improving it so it allows laboratories, hospitals and others to make use of the platform. Create security rules capable of keeping information as safe as possible. A long shot idea is to implement this into a blockchain. And who knows what else we can think of adding in the future. after all, we created this in 24 hours.
