Inspiration

Everyday tasks like calculating tips, converting units, checking BMI, and figuring out sleep cycles shouldn't require separate apps or websites. I wanted to create a fast, privacy-friendly, and beautifully designed toolset that simplifies these daily calculations — all in one place.

The idea was also fueled by the Bolt.new Custom Domain Challenge, pushing me to polish and launch the project as a live, SEO-optimized tool anyone can use.

What it does

MetricBuddy is a suite of smart, focused calculators for daily life:

BMI Calculator

Sleep Calculator

Cooking Converter (cups ↔ grams)

Tip Calculator

Timezone Converter

Weight Converter

Dream Interpreter (coming soon!)

The site is lightweight, mobile-first, PWA-ready, and doesn’t require users to log in or share personal data.

How we built it

Frontend: Next.js 14 (App Router) with Tailwind CSS with bolt.new

Hosting: Deployed on Netlify

Custom Domain: metricbuddy.online (via Entri)

Analytics: Google Analytics + SEO best practices

Design: Minimalist, accessible UI with fast performance

Extras: Added PWA support and Open Graph/Twitter metadata for link sharing

Challenges we ran into

Domain Purchase Issues: The Entri+IONOS process didn’t work smoothly from Pakistan, causing a multi-day delay and requiring manual DNS configuration.

Global DNS Propagation: Took time to reflect properly worldwide.

SEO & Meta Conflicts: Optimizing for SEO in a single-page suite required careful use of metadata and dynamic content.

Balancing Simplicity and Features: Avoiding clutter while still offering valuable tools was tricky.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Launched a fully functional, mobile-optimized app in under 10 days

Got a custom domain live, despite international limitations

Achieved full SEO setup, including Open Graph, Twitter Cards, robots.txt, sitemap, and Google Search Console verification

Built everything solo, including UI/UX, dev, deployment, and troubleshooting

What we learned

Handling custom domains and DNS manually

Integrating Google Analytics and SEO in Next.js

Understanding the importance of performance and accessibility

Staying calm and solving real-world deployment problems under pressure
