Inspiration

We were inspired to build this productivity app because we're students who are constantly struggling to form healthy habits. Even basic habits, like drinking water, can be difficult to regularly maintain for some. Moreover, people are typically trying to improve their lives by developing multiple healthy habits in conjunction. In order to organize oneself, we thought it'd be quite helpful to have a centralized platform, that not only helps keep track of habits but also provides feedback and motivation.

What it does

Metis is a myth-inspired, AI-powered habit tracker designed to go beyond existing gamified task apps by offering proactive intelligence, adaptive guidance, and deeper psychological engagement. Unlike traditional trackers that only log input and streaks, Metis serves as an “oracle” for users, providing context-aware feedback, actionable strategies, and personalized adjustments to their long-term goals. The aesthetic is inspired by Greek mythology, evoking a sense of timeless wisdom while maintaining the clean, futuristic interface style of modern AI tools.

How we built it

Metis runs on a modern full-stack architecture. The backend uses Node.js with Express for APIs, connected to Supabase for data storage. Authentication is managed by Auth0, ensuring secure account handling with minimal boilerplate. Cerebras serves as the AI engine, powering habit classification, journaling insights, and adaptive recommendations. The frontend is built with React + Typescript and Tailwind styling to merge clean modern AI design with mythic visual elements. GitHub is used for version control, with each developer handling different layers of the stack, and CoPilot or Cerebras prompts are used to accelerate development.

Challenges we ran into

We had a hard time merging some files on GitHub. We realized that committing code from GitHub codebases doesn't work really well, and ended up spending an hour trying to figure out how to get our code merged.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The UI + design, as well as the Auth0 and Supabase backend, were challenging to set up, but they work nicely now!

What we learned

We learned a LOT about Git, as well as organizing projects. We also learned how to use external APIs like Auth0 and Supabase.

What's next for Metis

We'll see. We might try to continue working on Metis post-hackathon and see where it goes. It was pretty fun.
