Inspiration
As a woman iOS developer, I usually find myself being the only women (+woman of color, and LGBTQ+ person) in a tech environment such as my job, a meetup, or small event in my city. This brought up the issue that many women who work or participate in technology might have, the feeling of isolation, lack of valuable insights, and the lack of support from other women in this field.
What it does
Metis, puts the focus on women who have tech related goals and want to meet them with the help of other women. After signing up with either your Facebook account or email, you can then create a goal and update your community with your progress. As a user, you can also support and have an open dialogue about what someone just posted or you can simply give a clap to show support for their efforts.
How I built it
I used Swift to create the iOS app and Firebase to handle the database, storage, and authentication. I also used Facebook Login to easily create an account without having to create a new password and username.
Challenges I ran into
Finding 3rd party pods that were up to date to integrate into my app that would enhance user experience.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I got something to submit before the deadline despite it not being exactly how I'd want it.
What I learned
There are no apps out in the app store specifically for women in technology. I plan to change that.
What's next for Metis
I will continue to work on this app and spend more time on it to produce an app store worthy product. I would like to completely change the UI and enhance the user experience.
