Inspiration
Data privacy, local regulatory compliance, and automated auditing shouldn't rely on expensive cloud infrastructure. With the rise of AI-driven Network Attached Storage (NAS), we saw an opportunity to bring autonomous intelligence directly to edge hardware. METAVISION Local Compliance Watchdog was inspired by the need for a self-hosted, private, and precise auditing agent running natively on UGOS.
What it does
The Local Compliance Watchdog operates autonomously within the local NAS environment. It scans file structures, database configurations, and network endpoints against predefined regulatory compliance frameworks. Instead of exposing sensitive logs to external cloud APIs, it processes data locally using lightweight AI models, generating real-time audit reports, security anomaly alerts, and instant remediation suggestions through an intuitive dashboard.
How we built it
- Core Environment: Developed for UGOS running on high-performance NAS hardware.
- Architecture: Modular Python/Node.js backend integrated with local AI inference pipelines and lightweight database logging.
- Design & Vision: Built with precision engineering principles, featuring structured transparency, automated log parsing, and secure API endpoints.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing deep AI auditing capabilities with the strict resource constraints of edge NAS devices was our primary challenge. We solved this by optimizing local execution loops, minimizing memory overhead, and implementing efficient asynchronous event-driven scanning routines that do not impact regular storage performance.
What we learned
We gained deep insights into optimizing local AI agents for edge storage appliances, fine-tuning privacy-first compliance algorithms, and leveraging the full potential of UGOS developer capabilities for automated system monitoring.
