Inspiration Our inspiration came from beloved, cozy life-simulation games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. We saw a huge opportunity to bring that feeling of relaxing, productive, and social gameplay to the Meta platform. We wanted to create a world where friends could hang out, build something beautiful together, and go on adventures, whether they were fully immersed in VR or playing on their mobile phone. The goal was to make a social hub that's less about competition and more about collaboration and creation.

How We Built It MetaMeadows VR was built from the ground up using Meta Horizon's creator tools. We used scripting to develop the core mechanics: a grid-based farming system for planting and harvesting crops, a procedural generation system for the mines so every trip is different, and a real-time multiplayer framework to sync player actions.

We focused heavily on a low-poly, cozy art style, designing all our 3D assets to be highly optimized. This was crucial to ensure the world runs smoothly on both Meta Quest headsets and mobile devices, providing a consistent and accessible experience for everyone.

Challenges We Faced The single biggest challenge was designing a truly cross-platform experience. Creating user interfaces and controls that felt intuitive in both immersive 3D (VR) and on a 2D (mobile) touch screen was incredibly difficult. We also had to overcome hurdles in syncing the world state, ensuring that a farm tended by a mobile player would be perfectly updated for their friend logging in via VR.

What We Learned This project taught us the power of optimization. We learned how to balance visual fidelity with performance to serve two very different platforms. We also gained deep insight into cross-platform UI/UX design, finding that a "one-size-fits-all" approach doesn't work and that each platform needs thoughtful, unique considerations to feel right.

What's Next for MetaMeadows VR This is just the beginning! Our future plans include:

Deeper Mining: Adding more unique biomes, monsters, and treasures to the mines.

Crafting & Housing: Expanding the crafting system and allowing players to build and customize their own homes.

More Crops & Animals: Introducing a wider variety of plants and animals to raise.

Seasonal Events: Adding festivals and in-game events that bring the community together.
